Melbourne is well-connected to the rest of the world, with direct and one-stop flights from major cities across Asia, Oceania, Europe, and North America.

Arriving by Air

Melbourne Airport (MEL) β€” Tullamarine

The main international and domestic gateway, located approximately 22km (about 30–40 minutes by road) from the Melbourne CBD.

This is the recommended airport for AOHUPO/APS 2027 delegates. Most international flights arrive here.

Avalon Airport (AVV)

Located approximately 55km from the CBD, Avalon services select domestic and international routes. If you're arriving at Avalon, allow extra travel time to the city (approximately 50–70 minutes by road).

Getting Around Melbourne

The Melbourne CBD is highly walkable, and the free City Circle tram (Route 35) loops around the city centre β€” ideal for exploring without spending a cent.

The broader public transport network (trams, trains, buses) uses a Myki card. You'll need one to travel on all modes β€” tap on and tap off for every journey. Myki cards are available at the airport, train stations, some tram stops, and 7-Eleven stores across the city. You can also top up your Myki via the myki app (iOS and Android).

Tap-and-go with Visa or Mastercard is being progressively rolled out at select train stations for full-fare travel. Check the PTV website for the latest on which stations are supported before you travel.
